Yoga Therapy College is an affiliate School of Integrative Yoga Therapy. Integrative Yoga Therapy has over 3000 graduates around the world who have developed a variety of Yoga, wellness and stress management programs to meet the needs of people in hospitals, mental health settings, corporations, wellness centers, education, senior care, community centers, the performing arts and athletics as well as in Yoga classes and centers. Many Yoga practitioners choose our approach because it gives them the flexibility to teach in a wide variety of settings including the Yoga classroom as well as going beyond it into the community. Body workers, educators, nurses, physical therapists, psychotherapists, physicians and other professionals with a mind-body focus have chosen our programs in order to incorporate Yoga based wellness into their professions. We offer an IYT 200-Hour Teacher Training program, with a 500-Hour Teacher Training program coming in Spring 2017. 

What You Can Expect to Learn in our Program

Yoga Therapy is a positive career choice for the ever expanding field of integrative medicine. The Yoga Therapy College Teacher Training program offers a full-spectrum curriculum. You would be learning the following:

  • How to teach safe classes
  • General principles of anatomy as they apply to teaching yoga
  • General principles of yoga philosophy
  • How to use props effectively and creatively
  • How to increase or decrease the complexity of a pose to accommodate students with differing capabilities
  • How to teach simple restorative poses
  • How to teach breath awareness to beginners
  • Classroom ethics and professionalism
  • Pertinent aspects of the business of yoga including insurance needs for teachers, Yoga Alliance requirements and marketing basics
  • The tools of yoga therapy would include the following:

Foundations of Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is the application of the ancient science of yoga to enhance health and wellness at all levels of the person: physical, psychological, and spiritual.

Pranayama   (channeling of life force using the breath)

Yoga Mudras   (hand gestures attuning us to energy frequencies.)

The Koshas  Each individual client is seen as a unique and multidimensional "being" consisting of:

¨ Annamayakosha (physical body)

¨ Pranamayakosha (energy body)

¨ Manomayakosha (psycho-emotional body)

¨ Vijnyanamayakosha (wisdom body)

¨ Anandamayakosha (spiritual body)

The Five Pranavayus   (the five movements or functions of life force in the body)

Ayurveda   "The sister science to yoga."

¨ The Three Gunas (Rajas, Tamas & Sattva) (Psycoemotional dispositions)

¨ The Elements (Earth, Water, Air, Space, & Fire)

¨ The Doshas (Vata, Pitta, & Kapha)
